Founded in 1987 as a spin-off of the Catholic University of Louvain-La-Neuve, IRIS pioneered the market with the release of the IRISPen scanner — a hardware device that allowed users to scan text directly into a computer and Textiris 1.0 -- a Printed Card Board enabling PC to read printed text back in ‘80’s, now worldwide known as Readiris application used by millions of users around the globe!
Through the 90s, we made OCR hardware-independent, shifting our focus to "intelligent OCR" and advanced data capture. With the acquisition of Docutec in 2007, we integrated powerful AI document classification and invoice processing into our core offering.
Today, we operate globally with offices in Belgium, Germany, and the USA. As an independent software house fully integrated into Canon Europe since 2013, we act as the group's competence center for information management.
